Marton in Prince Edward County Virginia as a private soldier in the service of the United States during the revolutionary war, for the term of three years from the date of his enlistment and was attached to Capt. Rogers company in the eighth regiment commanded by Colonel Wood of the Virginia line that he was with the army at the battle of Mammoth court house but was confined to his quarter by the small pox after this attle he marched with General Woodford and under his command to the south and continued with him until the siege and surrender of Charlestown south Carolina which he was taken prisoner by the British put on board a prison ship, and then detained until he was with others exchanged in the year 1780 or 81. He was landed at James Town Virginia and was afterwards peace time not recollected discharged honorably at the Expiration of the term of his enlistment at William borough from the services of the United States. He has it not in his power to produce and annex his original discharge and does not at present recollect by that particular officer he was discharged. I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of Mar 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an Act of Congress, entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval services of the United States in the revolutionary war passed on the 18th day of Mar 1819 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts other than what is contained in this schedule hereunto and hereunto and by me subscribed (viz) 15 acres of land, not improved or in a state of cultivation $25, one mare and colt mare 17 years old $25, one yearling calf $2, 15 hogs of different sizes $30, 1 cow and calf $12, 2 ovens and 2 pots and 1 kettle $19, 1 peuter dish peuter bason four plates $2, some old worn knives and forks $0.50, 1 tub 1 pail 1 small piggin 1 churn $2, 1 old cask boxes 1 old muskit $8.50, 1 hoe 2 pair old drawing chains $5, 2 old chairs 1 sad iron $1. That I am by occupation a common labourer that I am now frail and feeble and unable to acquire my daily subsistence by labor. I am 65 years old. My family consists of only myself and wife, aged about 60 years and sworn to in open court, B. Cloud Clerk. David (his X mark) Brooks. And the court having seen and inspected the above schedule are of opinion that the property therein set forth and described is worth in all not more than the sum or $132 and the clerk is ordered to certify the same accordingly.
