While a resident of Halifax County, North Carolina, he enlisted in March 1780, served as a private in Captain Lane’s Company, Major Brickell’s North Carolina Regiment, was at the Siege of Charleston and was discharged about September 1, 1780. He enlisted late in September 1780, served as a private in Captain Jator’s (?) Company, or Captain Dickson’s Company, Colonel Branch’s North Carolina Regiment, was in the storming of a Tory post on the New Province Creek and was discharged in February 1781. He enlisted in April 1781 and served three months as a teamster under Wagonmaster Rose, and Colonel Long in the North Carolina Troops. He again enlisted in 1781, served two months as a private in Captain Cox’s (or Cooke’s), or Captain Gaddy’s Company, Colonel William Linton’s North Carolina Regiment, was in skirmishes in and near Halifax, North Carolina and was discharged upon receipt of the news of surrender of Cornwallis. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 17, 1832 while a resident of Claiborne County, Tennessee. At the time of his application for pension he referred to his wife then very old, but did not give her name. He also stated at that time, that “fourteen years ago” he lost one of his legs which was off just below the knee. No reference is made to children. Soldier died May 21, 1851.
