Cook, for three years and served in the __ Regiment of the North Carolina line under the following officers: He believes that the name of his captain was Alexander Mebane. Lieutenant Nicholson and Ensign Pastors were the balance of his company’s officers. His field officers as well as he recollects, were Colonel Clark and Major ____. He left the service under this enlistment in the year of 1779 as well as he recollects. He resided at the time of this enlistment in Granville County in the state of North Carolina.” “He states that during his services, he was in the Battle at Germantown and fought in said battle. In this battle, he recollects that General Nash was killed with a cannon ball and the command was assumed by General Davidson. He states that from Granville County he was marched down through Newbern and Halifax to Fredericksburg, when he, with the balance of the troops, were inoculated for the small pox. So soon as he recovered, he was marched to headquarters at Philadelphia. From there he was marched with the troops to various points as the position of the enemy required. He was marched through Baltimore, Lancaster and a variety of towns that he cannot now recollect. He states that during the Battle at Brandywine, he was stationed at Philadelphia.
