He was born about 1760. He was living in Granville County, N. C., when he enlisted Dec. 22, 1776, as a private and a musician in Capt. Cook's company of the Ninth North Carolina regiment. He was discharged Jan. 27, 1780. He was in the battle of Germantown. He married Feb. 5, 1798, in Wilkes County, N. C., Elizabeth Giddens. She applied for widow's pension Sept. 2, 1850 while living in Claiborne County, Tenn., aged 70 years, therefore born 1780.
