He was then 71 years old, therefore born 1764. He entered the service in 1776 when he was residing in Montgomery County, now Scott County, Va. He served as an Indian spy under Capt. James Gibson. After the War he served again against the Indians. This was in 1786. Some years after the Revolution he moved to Powell's Valley, near Cumberland Gap, and from there moved to the place in Claiborne County where he resided at the time he applied for his pension. A letter enclosed in the application says that Mary Noel, widow of Richard Noel, applied for a pension.
