Cochrane West Point Mississippi Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W.3874 it appears that John Sanders, while a resident of Dobbs County, North Carolina enlisted in 1777, served three months as private in Colonel Richard Caswell's North Carolina Regiment and was at the battle of Cross Creek, then a short time after, enlisted and served six months as private in Captain Shepherd's Company, Colonel Shepherd's North Carolina Regiment. He was allowed pension on his application executed January 4, 1833 while a resident of Claiborne County, Tennessee aged about eighty years. He died April 8, 1833 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Soldier married August 17, 1780 in Surry County, North Carolina, Mary Ann, or Molly Stotts (or Statts). She was allowed pension on her application executed August 5, 1843 while a resident of Campbell County, Tennessee aged eighty-one years. She died August 18, 1845, or August 27, 1847. Their children were: Jesse born August 17, 1781 John born September 2, 1783 Robert born December 18, 1785 William born January 10, 1788 Nancy or Vancy, also called Winy born March 10, 1790 Isaac born February 11, 1794 Abraham born December 12, 1796 David born October 6, 1799 Samuel born August 8, 1805 The above history is that of the only soldier named John Sanders (or similar spelling) who enlisted in North Carolina and later lived in Tennessee, found on the Revolutionary War records of this Bureau.
