CLAIBORNE COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Jane Smith Johnson, 3 Dec 2001

    Harrogate, Tenn. - Jane Smith Johnson, 82, passed away Monday, 
Dec. 3, 2001, at Tri State Comprehensive Care Center in Harrogate. 
Born Dec. 29, 1918, at Brownies Creek, she had lived most of her 
life in Big Stone Gap, Va. She was a member of the Big Stone Gap OES
Chapter #157. Her home for the last 14 months was Tri State 
Comprehensive Care Center, where she had many wonderful friends. She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Johnson; mother, 
Elizabeth Smith; and brothers, Britt, Hiram, and Clayton Smith. 
Survivors include five children, Virginia Faye Hensley, Ewing, Va., 
Nell Denny, Columbus, Ohio, Wanda Wells, Palm Bay, Fla., Linda 
Harper, Columbus, Ohio, and Ted Johnson, Canal Winchester, Ohio; 14 
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-
children; one brother, William G. Smith, New Braunfels, Texas; and 
several nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at 
Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va. An OES service will be 
conducted at 8 p.m. by OES Chapter #157 of Big Stone Gap, followed 
by the funeral service. The service will be conducted by Minister 
Greg Townsend, with special music by Rebecca Fleenor. Committal 
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Powell Valley 
Memorial gardens. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home 
at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. 
Pallbearers will be John and Sean Johnson, Matt and Josh Harper, Tim 
and Mike Denny, and Teddy Hensley. Memorials are suggested to the 
Tri State Comprehensive Care Activities Fund, 600 Shawanee Road, 
Harrogate, TN 37752; or the Ronald McDonald House, 1705 Clinch Ave., 
Knoxville, TN 37916. Holding Funeral Home is in charge of 
arrangements.
