Additional Comments:
Alexander Brooks owned a general store on Powell River, near Tazewell, in 

Claiborne County.  He served in the Confederacy during the Civil War, 31st TN 

Inf Reg, A.B. Bradford's Reg.  He fought in the Battle at Shiloh with Col. 

Braff in the invasion of Kentucky and also Nashville, Murfreesboro, and in 

Chattanooga in the Battles of Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge.  His service 

was ended 01 May 1865 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

He married Mary Jane Campbell 19 Dec 1855 in Claiborne County.  Their children 

were: Florence Oregon Brooks (08 May 1865 - 08 Dec 1930; married: Dudley Ewing 

Dean); Serilda Jane Brooks (13 Nov 1856 - 29 Mar 1883); Henley Henry Brooks 

(02 Apr 1858 - 12 Apr 1936); Sterling R. Brooks (13 Aug 1859 - 22 Feb 1918); 

Floyd Brooks (1868 - 1918); Rachel E. Brooks (08 Jan 1877 - 17 May 1937); and 

Cornelia Brooks.

Alexander and Mary Jane Campbell Brooks were my g.g.grandparents; and their 

daughter, Florence Oregon Brooks Dean, and Dudley Ewing Dean, were my g. 

grandparents. PAL
