He was born at Alexandria, Va. May 18, 1765. He was living in Maryland when he first enlisted. In Sept. 1781 he went to Loudon County, Va., where he enlisted as a substitute for William Alford. He enlisted again under Capt. Lewis and Col. West. He was present at the surrender of Cornwallis. He guarded British prisoners. He left the service in October, 1781. In 1782 he enlisted again as a substitute for Jonathan Sparrow. He received his honorable discharge in writing which he sold to a merchant for five pounds in Maryland currency, payable in drygoods. He moved some years after the War to Cocke County, Tenn. His widow also drew a pension.
