He was born in 1760 in Loudon County, Va., and resided in that county when he enlisted in Virginia troops. He served in the battles of Valley Forge, Cowpens and Yorktown. After the Revolution he moved to Bedford County, Va., then to Greene County, Tenn., to Cocke County, Tenn., and then to Hamilton County. He had a brother, John Palmer. Note: Thomas Palmer is buried at Birchwood, near Chattanooga, Tenn. He married in Winchester, Va., Emily Atkins. Their children were: Thomas Palmer, Jr., who married Lydia Doughty; William Palmer; John Palmer, and Maria Palmer. It is said that he told his children he stood very near Gen.
