Rollins SRol786334@aol.com ==================================================================== SMITH - James Knox Polk Smith was born December 4, 1843, to Thomas Jefferson and Cynthia Powell Smith in Coffee County, Tennessee. James K. Smith's brothers were Alexander, William, Samuel, Alfred and George. His sisters were Margaret, Martha, Ella and Frances. His mother was the daughter of Alexander and Martha Browder Powell. Cynthia born April 4, 1816, died November 22, 1882 and is buried in the Smith family cemetary in Coffee County, Tennessee. James K. Smith enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as a private in Company B, 44th Regiment Tennessee Infantry. He was captured near Petersburg in 1864 and released July 5, 1865. After returning home to Coffee County, Tennessee James married Mary Ann Holt on August 23, 1866. Mary Ann was born March 6, 1850 in Cannon County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Holt. Mary Ann's brothers were John, William, Joseph,Jasper and Granville. Elizabeth's parents were William and Mary Matthews Ring. Elizabeth is the daughter of William Ring born 1782 in North Carolina.
