Powell I do hereby give grant and convey to him the said William A. Powell the following slave Vez, a girl named Caroline in her eight year. The above described negro is estimated to be worth four hundred and fifty dollars and the said William A. Powell acknowledges the receipt of that sum as an advancement from me to him towards his interest in my estate. I warrant said negro to be sound healthy and senseable and a slave for life and also warrant and defend the title to the same to said William A Powell his heirs and assigns against the claims of all persons whatever This the 15 day of March 1856 (signed) Alexander Powell (seal) Attest D.J.
