Der Brother and sister
I set my self this evening to try to rite you a few lines to let you now that
we ar all on fot but not well i received your leter the 4 of this month which
I was glad to her from you and family that you was all well and our frens Tho
very sary to her that Brother in law is ded and sister and the little children
skitered I wood be glad to see them and all of my frens and I am very glad to
think that you hant in tirly fogot to rite to me this the first leter that I
have had from you in severl year I rite to you and brother Joseph is soon as i
got home and you never rite to me til now Brother I want you to Rite to me
offen and state to me al how tha ar geten along and how Abner and David ar
winden up the state (turn over)

Abner rote to me the same time and sead in his leter that he wanted me to come
and pay up I want to now if tha have soul the lan and fix up al lof the rest
of the bsness and state to me all about hit I want to do what is rite and you
ment tell the rest that I rote this to you and I will come up thar nex fall if
I can so my wife and children sens thar love to yu all

Tell Brother Joseph if he cant Rite he can get some one to Rite to me so I
wood be glad to her from you at any time yours truly beloved Brother tel deth

		Translation: 
Dear Brother and Sister
I set myself this evening to try to write you a few lines to let you know that
we are all on foot but not well.  I received your letter the 4th of this
month, which I was glad to hear from you and family that you are all well and
our friends.  Though very sorry to hear that brother-in-law is dead and sister
and children scattered.  I would be glad to see them and all of my friends,
and I am very glad to think that you haven't entirely forgot to write to me.
This is the first letter that I have had from you in several years.  I wrote
to you and brother Joseph as soon as I got home, and you never wrote to me
until now. Brother, I want you to write to me often and state to me how all
are getting along and how Abner and David are winding up the state.

Abner wrote to me the same time and said in his letter that he wanted me to
come and pay up.  I want to know if they have sold the land and fixed up all
of the rest of the business and state to me all about it.  I want to do what
is right and you ment tell the rest that I wrote this to you and I will come
up there next fall if I can.  So my wife and children send their love toyou
all.

Tell Brother Joseph if he can't write, he can get someone to write to me.  So
I would be glad to hear from you at any time.

This letter is written by William Howard Bryan son of John and Sarah Bucy 
Bryan to Marquis Lafayette and Selina Catherine Wagner Bryan.  William's 
wife's name was Penelopy and their children were John and Sarah.

It references Joseph Wilson Bryan, David Barton Bryan and Abner Bryan all sons 
of John and Sarah Bryan.

The sister is Sarah Elizabeth Bryan who was married to Cyrus Darius Fletcher 
Browne who died on 2 Feb 1859.  They had eleven children:
