OMA BRASFIELD--Services for Mrs. Oma Brasfield, who died at her home near Friendship at noon Sunday were held Monday at Floyd's Chapel Methodist Church, burial in Church cemetery. She leaves her husband, E. R. Brasfield; two sons, J. E. BRASFIELD, of Trenton, Ga., and Russell BRASFIELD, of Friendship; three brothers, Geo. JONES, of Friendship, Roosevelt JONES and McKinley JONES, both of Halls; three sisters, Mrs. Joel BRASFIELD, of Friendship, Mrs. Elma DAVENPORT, of Dyersburg, and Miss Wilmer JONES of Halls. Crockett County Sentinel January 5, 1950 JOHN WEAVER--Services were held Monday, January 2nd at Rehoboyh Church near RoEllen for John WEAVER, who died at the home of his son, Pled WEAVER near Tigrett Friday night. He was 83. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Charley HOBBS, of Dyersburg; five sons, Elmer WEAVER, Doc WEAVER, and Johnny WEAVER, all of Tatumville, Joe WEAVER of Flint, Mich., and Pled WEAVER of Tigrett. Crockett County Sentinel January 5, 1950 ELMER BRASFIELD--Services for Elmer BRASFIELD, 56, who died Sunday at his home in Fruitvale, were held Monday at Cypress Church in Crockett County, burial in church cemetery. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Madge Elks BRASFIELD; two sons, Wayne BRASFIELD and Delayne BRASFIELD, both of Fruitvale; three daughters, Juanita BRASFIELD, Anita BRASFIELD and Barbara BRASFIELD, all of Fruitvale; three brothers, Will BRASFIELD, of Alamo, Emmett BRASFIELD, of Jackson, and Homer BRASFIELD, of Humboldt. CHARLIE SPEERS--Services for Mr. Charlie SPEERS, who died at his home in the Quincy community Tuesday, will be held at thw Quincey Penecostal church Thursday, burial in Quincy Cemetery. He leaves three children, Willie SPEERS and Dee SPEERS, of Alamo, Mrs. Alma RICHARDSON, of Steele, Mo. ; a brother, Tom SPEERS, of Monroe, La. ; a half- brother, Ira SPEERS, of Alamo; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ethel SPENCE and Mrs. Minnie WHITEHEAD, of Chicago. He was 81. Crockett County Sentinel January 5, 1950 MR. JOHN HENRY TAWATER--Mr. John Henry TAWATER, 83, died Saturday night at Doctors' Hospital in Jackson. He was the father of Fenner TAWATER, of near Alamo. His wife, five other sons and a daughter survive. He was a native of Savannah, Tenn. NORA RAINEY--Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Sudbury Funeral Home in Friendship for Mrs. Nora RAINEY, who died at Oakville Sanitarium Sunday, burial in Bowen's Chapel Cemetery. She was 70. She leaves three sons, Charles RAINEY and Forrest RAINEY, of Friendship and Atlas RAINEY, of Earle, Ark. ; Three daughters, Mrs. Shelby CRUM, of Dyersburg, and Mrs. Anna HAWKINS and Mrs. Lawrence EAST, of Friendship; two brothers, John J. PIERCE, of Washington and Robert PIERCE, of Bald Knob, Ark. ; two sisters, Mrs. W. C. COLSTAN, of Friendship and Mrs. John DANIELS, of Juno, Tenn. Crockett County Sentinel January 12, 1950 MRS. LEE OVERTON--Services were held Monday at the Providence Methodist Church in Madison County for Mrs. Lee OVERTON, who died at her home in Haywood County Sunday, burial in church cemetery. She was 81. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Lorene MARBURY, of Haywood County; four sons, Clyde OVERTON, Tom OVERTON, Horace OVERTON and Baker OVERTON, all of Haywood County. Crockett County Sentinel January 12, 1950 JOHN TRAYLOR--Services for John TRAYLOR, retired farmer of Bells, who died at his home Tuesday at 1 a. m., were held Wednesday at the Bells Baptist Church, burial in Bells Cemetery. He was 82. Born and reared in Crockett County, the son of the late Jodie E., and Martha Taylor TRAYLOR. His wife, Mrs. Lela Arnold TRAYLOR died several years ago. He leaves a son, David TRAYLOR, of Fort Myers, Fla. ; three daughters, Mrs. Malissie CAGLE, of Marks, Miss., Mrs. Ophelia HUSSER, of Memphis, and Mrs. Callie HOOCK, of Bells; one sister, Mrs. Callie WHITE, of Bells. ****************************************************************************** Crockett County Sentinal January 19, 1950 G. C. WALKER--Services have been held for G. C. WALKER, former merchant and chef at Maury City, who died recently of a heart attack. He was 62. He and his wife had established a good dry goods business in Eden, Tenn., in 1946, but he retired from that because of ill health. He was born in Poplar Ridge, Ark., where he spent his early youth. He was a WWI vet, Besdies his wife, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Cora SMITH and Mrs. Grace WERTZ, of Maury City, and Mrs. May JOWERS, of Jonesboro, Ark. ; a brother, Barney WALKER, of Springfield, Ore. Crockett County Sentinel January 19, 1950 B. A. COMPTON--Services were held on Monday at the home of Miss Gladys COMPTON for B. A. COMPTON, who died Saturday, January 14th, burial ib Bellview Cemetery. He was 53. He leaves his wife of Little Rock, Ark, ; three daughters, Mrs. Paul CONLEY, Jr., of Alamo, Miss Ann COMPTON and Shirley COMPTON, of Memphis; two sons, Billy COMPTON and Wayne COMPTON, of Memphis. Crockett County Sentinel January 19, 1950 MRS. BOB THIBEDEAN--Bells relatives and friends were shocked and greived when the news came Sunday afternoon that Mrs. Bob THIBEDEAN had passed away in Tampa, Fla., where she lived. She was formerly Marguerite "Snookie" CASEY, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A. P. CASEY and was born and reared in Bells. Mrs. CASEY was there as she left for Tampa last Thursday. Mr. CASEY flew Monday morning from Memphis. She is survived by her husband and son and an infant who was born a few minutes after the mother died; her sister and a large number of relatives. Crockett County Sentinel January 19, 1950 MRS. MARY ELKS--Mrs. Mary ELKS died at the home of her son, Lester ELKS, of Jackson Monday a. m. January 16th. Services were held Tuesday at Cypress, Burial in Cypress Cemetery. She was 79 and had lived in the Fruitvale community. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Elmer BRASFIELD, and one son, Lester BRASFIELD, of Jackson. Crockett County Sentinel January 19, 1950 WESLEY EDMUND CONNELL--Services were held on January 14th at Pond Creek Church near Alamo for Wesley Edmund CONNELL, who died Friday at the home of a nephew, Lyman CONNELL, of Cairo. He was 75 and had lived in Crockett County all his life. He leaves one brother, Stant CONNELL, of near Alamo; two sisters, Mrs. Sally GRIFFIN, of Humboldt and Mrs. Etta KAIL, of near Alamo; twenty neices and nephews to mourn his leaving. *********************************************************************************
