JERMAN ==================================================================== The following is extracted from the will of R. O. TATUM, and includes all names mentioned in said will. R. O. TATUM Will - Probated September 6th 1920 Minute Book 10 Page __ Know all men by these present, that I, R. O. TATUM... do make and publish this my last Will and Testament... Mentions: To my beloved daughter MATTIE MAIE TATUM the following described parcel of land, situated in the 3rd Civil District (part of which may be in the 6th Civil District) of Crockett County, TN... bounded as follows; on the North by BAILEY and EVANS on the East by BAILEY land on the South by WEBB Brothers; on the West by P. B. NANCE, land and contains by estimation 30 1/4 acres of land, being the land I purchased from FOLLIS and EMERSON & CATES... this tract is willed unconditionally and without limintation... To my beloved son G. M. TATUM, the following tract of land, lying in the 3rd Civil District of Crockett Co., TN, and bounded on the North by the L. & N. RR; on the East by PINK SIMMONS; South by RICHARDSON and West by L. & N. RR. being the homeplace now occupied by me and contains about 8 acres and was formerly owned by MEDLIN... this tract is given and willed unconditionally... without limintation. The residue of my personal property shall be divided equally between my beloved daughter MATTIE MAY TATUM and my beloved son, G. M. TATUM. The reason I leave all to MATTIE MAIE TATUM and G. M. TATUM, is not because I entertain more affection for them than I have for my other three beloved children, but because of the fact that the said MATTIE MAIE TATUM has very materially aided me in the accumulation of what I own, and the said G. M. TATUM is afflicted and I feel that my other three boys are physically and mentally able to take care of them selves. If I owned a large Estate, I would be glad to leave each one something, but in view of the fact that the Estate is small, it is my desire that it be disposed of as I have herein. CASEY Continued: I, feel that I am due my relatives and friends some explanation regarding this Will., we all know that ALICE MORTON JENKINS, is not a legal heir by birth, but I have made her so by promise to her father, her mother died when she was a baby, she died very sudden her father sent for us but she was dead when we got there, I and him was seting out to ourselves he was telling me his troubles she was the 4th one he has lost and said that she had left him in a worse fix than any of the others with 5 little children he told her that her time was about out if there was any things she wanted to say or wanted him to do to let him hear it she told him that she wanted him to keep the children together and raise them the best he could and the last word she said she want me and my wife to take her baby and raise it he then ask me if I was willing to take it I told him that if he was going to let us take it and raise it that I was was willing but if he wanted me take her and keep her until we became attened to her then take her that I did not want her. But I was perfectly willing to take her and raise her and would treat her just like she was our own child we have raised her and she feels as near to us and us to her as if she was our own by birth while I think as much of my people as any body does their people I feel honor bound and also duty bound to make ALICE my legal heir and I hope that none of my relatives will censur me for doing so far I have not got a thing against any relatives my conscious is clear in all that I have done.
