CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN - MISCELLANEOUS - Tornadoes of 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Sunday,November 10,2002 November 10,2002, is a date that most of us will never forget, it changed alot of our lives forever. At 7:08 pm. CST a Tornado was 1 mile west of Crab Orchard. It was rated as F1 (73-112 mph). It blew a tractor trailor truck on its side at the Crab Orchard interchange at I-40. This storm complex moved on to Morgan County. At 8:46 pm.CST Law Enforcement reported a Tornado, in the Big Lick area of Cumberland County.This one was rated as F0 (40-72mph). Two Tornadoes struck Crossville, in Cumberland County, from the U.S. Highway 127 south of Crossville to Lantana Dr. west of Crossville. There were four fatalities in Cumberland County, and 18 injured. The Tornado was rated as F3 (158-206 mph). A couple died in a modular home and another couple died in a mobile home.The tornado touched down at 9:43 pm CST Sunday 5 miles SW of Crossville. It had a path length of 12 miles and a path width of 900 yrds.. The Tornado ended at about 9:58 pm CST, 8 miles southeast of Crossville. A brick home lost a roof and several walls on U.S. Highway 127 and just south of 3 Creek Road. There were five other well constructed homes in the same area sustained roof damage.Fifty acres of hardwoods were twisted and tangled . There were 33 homes destroyed, and 128 more damaged. Many power lines were down,trees were uprooted and snapped. The heaviest damage was along Lantana Drive, Lantana Road, Lantana Acres, Dunbar Rd.and Pigeon Ridge Road. The Lake Tansi area was hit hard ,where 2 of the fatalities occurred.Some of the homes were in upper middle class retirement or resort areas,with the exception of Lantana Dr. It is a short dead end street to some houses and several trailers. Lantana Drive is where the other 2 fatalities occurrred.There was nothing left on this street it was wiped out. .
