CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - William Don Eberhart, 18 Oct 1996 ----¤¤¤---- October 19, 1932-October 18, 1996 William Don Eberhart of Crossville,TN. passed away Oct. 18, 1996, Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21,1996, from Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Bro. Glenn Goggins, R.C. Maples and Rev. Marlayna Schmidt officiated. Pallbearers were Jim Butler, David Crabtree, Dayle Hedgecoth, Don Hinch, Tom Looney, Paul Pennington, Lane Tollett and Ralph White. Mr. Eberhart was born Oct. 19, 1932 in Rockmart, Ga., and moved to Hixson, Tenn. As a young child, he attended Hixson schools and graduated from Glencoe High in Glencoe, Ala. .He was a veteran with service in the U.S. Air Force .He held both a B.S. and M.S. degree from Tennessee Technology University. His career in education began as head football coach at Midway High School. He has served the Crossville community as teacher; football coach; principal of both elementary and high school; superintendent of schools and as city manager. Following his local positions in education, he joined the Tennessee Department of Corrections as principal of education at Bledsoe Regional Corrective Facility. He also served as associate regional director of special education for the Entire Tennessee Prison System as well as Warden at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. He ended his career as director of education for all juvenile institutions in the state. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick William and Lillian I.V. Eberhart. He was a member of West End Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Janice Swann Eberhart; sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick David and Donna Maples Eberhart of Crossville, and Thomas Randall and Jane Culpepper Eberhart of Dotham, Ala.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Heather, Jake, Nicholas, and Zachery Eberhart, all of Crossville; brother, Dwain E. Eberhart of Chattanooga; sisters, Mrs. Clifton (Idell) O'Neil; Mrs. Mary E. Davis, both of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Lillian E. Schmidt of Boston, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; paternal uncle; aunt; and several cousins.
