Mr Reed was pronounced dead Sunday after a vigorous search by rescue workers resulted in finding his body in the depths of Fox Creek Lake, located off of Peavine Road. Mr. Reed was swimming with his cousin, James Kirkland, 29, when they decided to try and swim across the lake at around 1 p.m. Reed was fully clothed, wearing blue jeans and work boots when they began the swim. According to Dep. Bobby Barker's report, when they got half-way across the lake, Kirkland looked back and noticed he did not see Reed anywhere. Kirkland searched the area and, thinking Reed grew tired and returned to the shore, swam back and searched the bank for him. After no success, Kirkland called for help. The Cumberland County Rescue Squad responded to the scene and began dragging the lake in efforts to find Reed. Around 20 rescue workers in boats poured over the lake during the search. Also on the scene were Emergency Management Services personnel and officer Bernie Jones. At about 7:15 p.m., Reed's body was located by rescue squad member Travis Reeves. Officials said there were no suspicious markings or wounds and that the drowning was apparently accidental, but routine follow-up investigations will be made by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and Inv. Brad Nealon. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
