Hale FRANK DIBRELL. One of the most popular and efficient of the state officers, Frank Dibrell has for nearly ten years been comptroller of the treasury, and has been active in public affairs for many years. He is a native Tennessean and representative of an old family well known in this state and elsewhere in the South. The Dibrells are of French descent. Frank Dibrell was born at Sparta, August 6, 1858, a son of George Gibbs and Mary E. (Leftwich) Dibrell. After leaving the public schools he attended Emery & Henry College in Virginia and completed his education in Vanderbilt University. Since his youth Mr. Dibrell has been a regular worker in the Democratic party, and for several years was chairman of the county executive committee in White county. He was a member of the Tennessee state senate in 1893 and in 1894 was appointed by Chancellor T. J. Fischer as clerk and master of the chancery court of White county, and discharged the duties of that office with ability for ten years. On March 20, 1904, Governor James B. Frazier appointed him to fill the unexpired term of Theodore F. King, who had resigned as comptroller of the treasury. Since then the legislature for three consecutive terms has chosen Mr. Dibrell to this office, there being no opposition to the unanimous choice, and this is the best testimony that could be found respecting the able manner in which he has conducted the office. Mr. Dibrell is a Knight Templar Mason and Shriner, member of Almenah Temple; also an Elk and Odd Fellow, Knight of Pythias, Woodman of the World, and member of the Royal Arcanum, and is a popular citizen throughout the state, where he has a very large acquaintance. On March 25, 1879, Mr. Dibrell married Miss Mary Lou Rhea, and their home is in Nashville. They have six children, viz: Bhea R., Kate S., who married K. F. Patter, and they reside at McMinville, Tennessee; Aquilla G., a graduate of the Annapolis Naval Academy and now a lieutenant in the navy; Emily E., Roy O., and Amanda Rowena. Mr. and Mrs. Dibrell are members of the Christian church.
