Hale WILLIAM ALEXANDER GUILD. Energetic and ambitious, with stanch integrity of purpose and a worthy determination to succeed in life, both as a man, a citizen, and a lawyer, William Alexander Guild has gained high rank in the legal profession, and as one of the leading attorneys of Nashville is well and widely known. A native son of Tennessee, he was born, August 26, 1871, in Gallatin, Sumner county, of excellent Scotch-Irish ancestry. His parents, Walter J. and Bettie (Alexander) Guild, were both natives of Tennessee, and representatives of early and prominent pioneer families who came to this state from North Carolina many years ago. His father, who served as a soldier in the Confederate army, and was afterwards engaged in agricultural pursuits, died in 1879, when but thirty-six years of age. Brought up in his native town, William Alexander Guild there obtained his early schooling. Subsequently entering Princeton University, he was there graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1893. While there he began reading law, and on returning to Tennessee continued his law studies at Vanderbilt University. Being admitted to the bar in 1894, Mr. Guild was successfully engaged in the practice of his profession at Gallatin for seventeen years, remaining there until 1911. In the fall of that year he located in the city of Nashville, where he is meeting with characteristic success, having already won his way to a high position among his fellow-associates in the law. Among his professional brethren Mr. Guild is regarded as a man of stanch ability and integrity, and in social life he is held in high esteem. Mr. Guild is affiliated with the Democratic party, but is not a politician in any sense implied by the term, and has never sought political honors, preferring his work as a lawyer to that of a public office holder. In his church faith he is a Presbyterian. Mr. Guild married December 25, 1907, Miss Louise Trousdale Allen, of Gallatin, Tennessee, and they are the parents of two bright and interesting sons, William Alexander Guild, Jr., and Allen Trousdale Guild.
