   ROSCOE NUNN is the official weather man at Nashville. In the official

terminology he is Section Director of the United States Weather Bureau in charge

of the Tennessee Section of Climatological Service. Probably the daily results

of the work of no state or federal official are so familiar to the people of the

state as Mr. Nunn's.



   Mr. Nunn was born in Lenoir county, North Carolina, on May 29, 1868. His

parents were Henry S. and Frances (Koonce) Nunn, both being of old families of

North Carolina, the father of English lineage and the mother of German. The

father, who was a soldier in the Confederate service, was for many years a

newspaper publisher and editor and spent a large part of his career at New

Berne, North Carolina.



   After attending the public schools Roscoe Nunn was a student in the

University of North Carolina, and then engaged in newspaper work. He quit

reporting the daily news and entered the United States weather bureau at

Raleigh, where he gained his practical experience in meteorology and climatology

and rose by merit from one grade to another. In 1899 he was promoted to the

Nashville office as assistant to the director, and since 1909 has had full

charge of the local bureau.



   Though not an active man in politics Mr. Nunn as a rule supports the men and

measures of the Democratic party. He is a member of the Episcopal church. Mrs.

Nunn, his wife, before her marriage was Miss Hattie Lee Dail, of North Carolina.
