NOLENSVILLE ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY 5106 Nolensville Road U.S. Highway Alternate 31 Antioch, Tennessee, U.S. Geological Survey Quadrangle Map 311 SW Formerly: TUSCULUM CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Called the GOODRICH CEMETERY, page 48 in Vol. 4 of Richard C. Fulcher's This cemetery goes down each side of the church and all across the back. It appears to have started in the 1850s or possibly earlier. The oldest part being behind the church toward Raywood Drive (the parking lot exits onto Raywood). Much of it has been lost forever in graves where the stones have completely worn off or disappeared. They appear to have been old limestone hand chiseled field stones. Many have disappeared into the ground and the exact locations lost forever. The Tusculum Cumberland Presbyterian Church had outgrown its building and was looking to build when the Whispering Hills Baptist Church had experienced a down growth and was having trouble meeting its larger buildings upkeep at 477 McMurray Drive corner of Tusculum Road. The two discussed a swap of properties. Tusculum Cumberland Presbyterian church property had a clause that should the property cease to be used as a church that the property would revert back to the family of the original owners. A judge ruled the swap was permissible as the property would still be used for a church so on Memorial Day, May 30, 1986 the churches swapped property. Whispering Hills Baptist Church became Nolensville Road Baptist Church at 5106 Nolensville Road with the Goodrich Cemetery (as Fulcher called it). Tusculum Cumberland Presbyterian Church moved to 477 McMurray Drive into the old Whispering Hills Baptist Church buildings. Mr. Fulcher last recorded the cemetery in April of 1981. Since then many tombstones have become almost impossible to read. In November 1999, Henry A. "Buddy" Cox and Louise Reid Cox carefully rechecked the entire cemetery many times in several weeks and corrected mistakes and recorded stones missed and added since 1981. Noted also some stones have disappeared entirely. We took the liberty of adding "born" and "died" to some descriptions where only the two dates appear. It was sad to see so much lost. The numbering begins at the point opposite the main side porch entrance on South side across from the parsonage. There are over 226 people known to be buried here. 1.
