He was born in Mechlenburg County, North Carolina, July 9, 1758. He entered the service in Mechlenburg County. He moved in 1785 to Davidson County, then North Carolina, now Tennessee, where he lived for three years. He returned to Mechlenburg County, where he lived until 1799, when he moved to Wake County. He entered the service in 1775. He received a commission later as Lieutenant Colonel. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs and in the battle of Brandywine where he was wounded by a musket ball in the cheek. His paper gives full detail for his service. He died January 14, 1834.
