The croix de guerre he won for shooting down two Hun planes in flames at Marne-Aisne...The legion of honor, the highest decoration bestowed by the French government was awarded Capt Buford for general work around Chateau Thierry." Additional Comments: Capt Ed Buford Jr. was the son of Ed Buford, a Confederate POW of the 3rd Tenn Inf and Lizinka Elliston Buford. His parents are buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville.
