WILLIE MICAJAH BARROW, in the 42d year of his age. He was a native of Tennessee, and emigrated to Bayou Sara in 1834. In 1848 he purchased a plantation in West Baton Rouge, since which time he has been one of our most active, energetic and prominent citizens. It is seldom that a community is called on to mourn the loss of a better man than Maj. Barrow. In all his various relations to society, as a father, brother, husband, and friend, he was a kind, affectionate, devoted and sincere friend. He was kind, affectionate, devoted and sincere. His social qualities were of the highest order, and many a warm-hearted friend will shed a tear while reading this small tribute of respect to his memory. Maj. Barrow belonged to the class of persons who enjoy life in its fullest sense, and drew closely around him friends who will hallow his memory as long as time shall last. His person was large, his bearing noble, his soul warm, and his disposition amiable and kind. In the recent ravages of Death, the fell destroyer has taken away many of our best citizens, but, in this instance, he has robbed us of one whose place cannot be easily filled. While we mourn his loss, all we can do is to emulate his virtues and cherish his memory. He leaves behind him three orphan children, whose mother died years ago. That a kind Providence, who “tempers the wind to the shorn lamb,” will guide and guard these sorrowing children, is the prayer of all who knew their worthy and lamented father. H.W.A.
