HIBBETT--Monday, August 1, 1955, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George 

Deck, Tulsa, Okla., Eugene Alexander Hibbett, age 86 years. Survived by 

daughters: Mrs. George Deck, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. J.H. McCormick of Atlanta, 

Ga.; sons: Ira Kneeland Hibbett of Nashville, Garrett James Hibbett and Horace 

Isbell Hibbett of Los Angeles, Calif.,; Sisters: Mrs. T.S. Eskridge of this 

city, Mrs. John Pearson of Lavergne, Tenn. and Mrs. Grace Reece of Birmingham, 

Ala.,; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The remains will arrive 

Thursday morning at 1:40 o'clock and will be conveyed to the parlors of Roesch-

Patton Com., 1715 Broadway, where funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 

o'clock by Rev. Grady A. Wall. W.S. Hackworth, Fred Whitemore, W.P. Sensing, 

T.J. Hale, of Chattanooga, Tenn., W.A. Swindell of Atlanta, Ga., W.J. 

McWhorter, S.P. Strickland of Chattanooga, Tenn., H.D. McDaniels of Atlanta, 

Ga., and officials and employees of the NC&St.L Railroad will serve honorary 

pallbearers. Active, his grandsons and nephews: Ira K. Hibbett, Jr., J.L. 

Hibbett, T. Eugene Hibbett, James H. McCormick, Jr., Charles Welch, William M. 

Hibbett, George Kinard and B.K. Hibbett, III. Interment in Mount Olivet 

cemetery. Roesch-Patton Co., funeral directors.







Additional Comments:
Note: My great-grandfather, Eugene Alexander Hibbett b:16 Sep 1868, was the 

son of Ira Kneeland Hibbett b:1837 d:24 Oct 1912 and Mary Lucinda Alexander 

b:02 Apr 1847 d:04 Dec 1927. My grandfather, Hoffman DeWitt Hibbett b:04 Jan 

1909 d:09 Feb 1940, was a son of Eugene and Lola Garrett James b:11 Mar 1873 

d:06 Jun 1951. All are buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, TN.



When Hoffman died, my grandmother, Marguerite Lydie Champagne Hibbett, moved 

her family back to her native New Orleans, LA, and lost all contact with the 

Hibbett family. Hoffman's siblings: Garrett James b:22 Jul 1893; Ira Kneeland 

b:01 Sep 1895; Eugene Alexander b:16 Sep 1897; Horace Isbell (he apparently 

changed his name to William Horace)b:01 Jul 1900; Ella Mary b:01 Dec 1902; 

and, Lola Dorothy b:08 Jan 1913.
