Cox Ecoxjr@aol.com ==================================================================== 1861 WILL: State of Tennessee, Davidson County William Bumpass Dec 2-----------Recorded March 15th 1862 The uncertainty of Life and the certainty of death is the cause of my making a division of my property and first I give and bequeath to my wife fifty acres of land, Beginning at my north boundary line and running South with W. Turner and Allen Cotton and after her death to go to TENNESSEE RUCKER and the heirs of her own body or in other words the children that she now has and what she may have hereafter, also one horse to my wife ELIZABETH and also one negro man named Henry which is about 50 years of age, also one negro girl named Martha about 15 years of age. The balance of my property to be equally divided between my lawful heirs also the said negros Henry and Martha to be sold at the death of my wife ELIZABETH and the money equally divided between my lawful heirs except TENNESSEE RUCKER which is to have nothing but the 50 acres of land after the death of my wife ELIZABETH. I also leave this my last will and testament Settled by JOHN RUCKER and GREENVILLE GRIZZARD. I acknowledge this to be my last will and testament when unto I set hand and this 30rd. day of December 1861. William Bumpass ( seal ) STATE OF TENNESSEE, DAVIDSON COUNTY COURT JANUARY TERM 1862 A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of WILLIAM BUMPASS Dec'd was produced in open court for probate and proved thus W.H.G. Morgan and W.C. Blackman the subscribing witnesses their being duly sworn depose and say that they became such in the presence of the said WILLIAM BUMPASS and at his request and that they verily believe he was of sound and disposing mind and memory at the time of excuting the same: Ordered that said paper writing be admitted to record as such last will and testament of the said WILLIAM BUMPASS dec'd. Whereupon JOHN RUCKER and GREENVILLE D. GRIZZARD the executors named in said will came into Court and gave a bond in the sum of Eleven Thousand Dollars with JOHN TAYLOR, JOHN A. MILES and A. HILL their securities and qualified according to law Ordered that Letters Testamentary issue to them.
