Davidson County, TN Will Book 10, 1853-55, page 69.  

Will of Edney Grizzard, August 8, 1850.  

I Edney Grizard do make and publish this my last will 
and Testament hereby revoking and making null and void 
all other wills by me at any time made.

1st:  I direct that my funeral expenses and debts be 
paid out of the first money that comes unto the hand 
of my executor.

2nd:  I bequeath to my son William Grizard a negro 
girl named Adeline and her increase.

3rd:  I also five and bequeath to my son H.A. Grizard 
a negro boy named George.

4th:  My will and desire that my son William Grizard 
at my death take possession of my negro girl Dicey and 
hire her out to the best advantage and appropriate that 
the proceeds of her hire to my son  John Grizard during 
his life and at his death my will is that the said Dicey 
and her increase if any be sold and the money equally 
divided between John Grizard's) children (Annually?) 
William, John, Mary and Frances. 

5th:  My will is that my son William Grizard also take 
possession at my death of my negro girl Margaret and 
hire her out to the best advantage and appropriate the 
proceeds of her hire to Ambrose Grizard and his family 
__ furnishing clothing and possessions and at Ambrose 
Grizard's death, the said girl Margaret and her increase 
if any, to be kept in  the hands of a trustee to be hired 
out in the usual way and the proceeds to be appropriated 
to his heirs except his son William Grizard.

6th:  I give and bequeath to my grandchildren, the children 
of my daughter Nancy Jones, (viz) Alfred, Sarah, Edney, 
Abigail, James, Hinton, Martin, John or Jones? and Lucinda 
my negro ___ Ann and her increase to be divided when the 
youngest of all the above named children shall become of age.  

7th:  I bequeath to my grandchildren, the children of my 
daughter Edney Holt dec'd (viz -Manervia, Joseph, David, 
Mary, Edney, Francis, James, Elizabeth, and Laracy my negro 
named Sophia and child and increase which woman and child 
and other increase I desire at my death to be placed under 
the control of my executors and managed to the best 
advantage until the youngest of said children become of age 
or marries at which time I desire said woman and increase 
to be equally divided and provided that David Holt continues 
___ on any of the rest of said children should not be doing 
___ in  managing their affairs it is my desire that their 
share be ____ be placed in the hands of a trustee to be 
managed for their benefit.

8th:  I give and bequeath to my daughter Abigail Johnson 
and the heirs of her body my negro girl Betty and her 
increase.

9th:  I bequeath to my granddaughter Luracy I. Holt  
my or one large bed furniture and twenty dollars.

10th:  It is my desire that my woman Early? be sold and 
also her children; Caroline, Wilson and Joseph __ to be 
sold and after that is done appropriated that balance to 
be divided between my grandchildren of my son Major 
Grizzard and my daughters Mary Wilks,  Lucy Utley and  
Elizabeth Nowington (?) except Zebulon Utley, Gabriel 
Utley and Lucinda Utley and  William and Albert Wilks 
each I will $1.00.  also I except the daughter of Major 
Grizard named Mary to whom I bequeath the sum of one 
dollar and the balance to be divided among the children 
no above named equally.

11th:  It is my will and desire that my stock and house 
hold and kitchen furniture be sold and the proceeds with 
any other money which may come into the hands of my 
executor be appropriated as follows, twenty dollars 
to my grandson Major son of Ambrose Grizard and the 
balance to be appropriated to my grandchildren that my 
executors may think in the most needy condition.

12th:  I hereby give notice to my heirs that my rent? 
has been regularly paid.

13th:  I hereby nominate and appoint Dr. A. G. Goodlet 
and my sons William and H. A. Grizard my executors in 
witness hereof I do this will set my hand and seal this 
8th day of August 1850.
