I Hartwell Seat being frail of body yet sound in mind and knowing (agreeable to the course of nature) my time is but short in this world and having a desire that my wordly goods that God has helped me with should be disposed in the following manner as herein after expected(?) 1st I commit my soul to God that gave it and that my body be decently buried in a plain neat manner 2nd My will and desire is that all my Just debts should be paid 3 I give and bequeath to my beloved wife one third part of my land during her natural life to be laid off to her as she may choose and at her death to be equally divided among all my children share & share alike and I give to my said beloved wife one equal childs part of all my other property to do with as she may think proper also a plentiful allowance for her out of my estate for one year 4th I do lend to my daughter Sarah Campbell during her natural life one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of and at her death to be equally divided among all the lawful heirs of her body share & share alike to do with as they may think best to them and their heirs forever 5th I do give to my son William P Seat one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of to him and his heirs forever 6th I do give to my son Greer Seat one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of to him and his heirs forever 7th I do give to my son Littleton Seat one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of to him and heirs forever 8th I do lend to my daughter Ginny Watkins during her natural one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of and at her death to be equally divided among all the lawful heirs of her body share and share alike to do with as they may think best to them and their heirs forever 9th I do give to my son John B Seat one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of to him and his heirs forever 10th I do lend to my daughter Peggy Humphries during her natural life one equal childs part of all my property not otherwise disposed of and at her death to be equally divided among all the lawful heirs of her body share & share alike to do with as they may think best to him and their heirs forever hereby revoking all former wills by me made & satisfying this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have herein set my hand and affixed my seal at my house in the county of Davidson State of Tennessee this the Twenty seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty four and for the faithful performance and excoution of this my last will and testament I do nominate and appoint Jeremiah Esell and my beloved wife Rebecca Seat Executor & Executrix to this my last will and testament signed and sealed in presence of Test John Gowen. John J Gowen Hartwell Seat State of Tennessee Davidson County court October Sessions 1827 A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Hartwell Seat deceased was exhibited in open court for probate and John Gowen and John J Gowen the subscribing witnesses to said paper being duly sworn say they became such in the presence of the testator and at his request and in presence of each other and that they believe said Hartwell was in his right mind at the time of executing said paper It is therefore considered by the court that said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of said Hartwell dec. And thereupon Rebecca Seat the executrix named in said will came into court and renounced her right of acting as such. Whereupon it is ordered that William P Campbell have letter of administration granted to him with the will annexed on the estate of the said Hartwell decd he Having given bond in the sum of Twelve thousand dollars with Sarah Campbell Edward H East and John Gowen his securities and Qualified according to Law.
