JENNINGS CEMETERY, DECATUR CO., TN Parsons, TN N 35.718955994 W 88.105316162 ************************************************ http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tn/tnfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives & USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project by: Bill Grinstead (billgrinx@netscape.net) Surveyed: April 2005 | Submitted: August 30, 2009 Photo Transcription: http://www.usgwarchives.net/tn/decatur/photos/tombstones/jennings/jennings.html The cemetery is located on Highway 641N north of Parsons on the property of George Bell. The property is the first farm on the right after crossing Storms Creek and the cemetery is to the south of the barn under the shade of a solitary large tree. Two of the headstones are broken and only the bottom portion of one stone exists. The stones have been removed from the graves and are leaning against the tree. It appears that other graves exist at the site but one hundred sixty plus years have built inches of soil and grass that obscure a clear view. This cemetery was previously indexed by Margaret Alexander, Dorotha Collet, and Blanche Tuten on 12/29/1977. Their work was a project of the Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Parsons, Tennessee. At the time of the UDC survey only two headstones were present. A third was later discovered in the mid 1990s by local family researcher Bill Jennngs. The headstone had been used for many years as the step into the back entry of the house.
