MCMURRY CEMETERY

Decatur County, Tennessee



            This family cemetery off McMurry Road, overgrown 

for many years, was cleaned off in late 2001 and its access 

drive is now marked. It is interesting because it retains much 

of a nineteenth century appearance, with mated fieldstones 

marking the head and foot of many graves. There are 17 

fieldstone-marked graves and perhaps 4-6 unmarked graves. 

David Donahue recorded this cemetery February 17, 2002.



            Bobbie Bartholomew and Margarett Alexander 

recorded this cemetery on April 12, 1976. Their record appears 

in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the 

Captain Daniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the 

Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 333-334. They noted 

"21 unmarked graves."
