The story passed down among families using this cemetery is that this was a servant of Samuel Ashcraft who asked to be buried next to his master. There are 6-8 blacks buried in the northeast corner of the cemetery. These were marked with small fieldstones as late as 1960 and some locations are still identifiable as shallow depressions.
