DECATUR COUNTY, TN - CEMETERIES - Suttles Chapel Decaturville City Cemetery ========================================================================= David Donahue, the creator of this file, declares it to be in the public domain. ========================================================================= SUTTLES CHAPEL CEMETERY Decatur County, Tennessee Suttles Chapel Cemetery is located about a mile north of Jeanette on the road from Jeanette to Holladay. It is indicated on the U.S.G.S. Sugar Tree quadrangle (1986) south of Little Lick Creek. The cemetery dates to the early nineteenth century as indicated by the large number of fieldstone-marked graves and is much older than the adjacent church. There may 200 or more fieldstone-marked and unmarked graves. Note that some of the fieldstones have names and dates scratched on them. However, at best these can only be read under the most favorable light. Suttles Chapel seems to have been the primary cemetery for the area before World War I. Salem Cemetery (Jeanette Cemetery) largely superceded Suttles Chapel as the primary cemetery for the area after World War I. However, Suttles Chapel has remained in use. David Donahue recorded this cemetery May 5, 1997 and checked and updated in December 2003. Margarett Alexander and Blanche Tuten recorded this cemetery March 28, 1978. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Daniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 573-577. They noted "at least 175 unmarked graves." Acuff, Audrey Jean, Oct. 6, 1934-Mar. 30, 1995, "Daughters Carol J./Debra A."
