Riggs & wife Mary J. Riggs to J.T. Colwick I, S.W. Riggs, have this day bargained and Sold and do hereby transfer and convey to J.T. Colwick and his heris forever for the consideration of Four Hundred Dollars to me in hand paid a tract of land in the State of Tennessee Decatur County District No. 12 containing by estimation 40 acres more or less and bounded as follows. Beginning at the Creek poles West of B.F. Cary, North West corner runs East with B.F. Cary North boundary line to a Hickory, thence east to a stake to the West boundary line of the Newsom land, thence North with said line to the South east corner of J.T. Colwick land, thence West with said line to the Creek, thence South with said Creek to the beginning to have and to hold the same to the said J.T. Colwick his heirs and assigns forever. I do covenanat with the said J.T. Colwick that I am lawfully possessed of said land and have a good right to convey it and that the same is unemcumbered, I do further Covenant and bind myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to the said land and every part thereof to the said J.T. Colwick his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim of all persons whatever. Given under my hand and seal this the 2nd day of Sept. 1887. Test W.D. Colwick S.W. Riggs Jas. W. Hill Mary J. Riggs privately and apart from her husband relative to her free execution of the within deed and the same so taken to certify under your hand and seal Witness J.E. Dees Clerk of the County Court of said county at office this Sept. 5th 1887 J.E. Dees Clerk State of Tennessee} Mary J. Riggs wife of S.W. Riggs having personally appeared before me and having by virtue of the authority in me vested been examined privately and apart from her said husband and she having acknowledged the due execution of the within deed freely voluntarily and understandingly without compulsion or constraint by her said husband and for the purposes therein contained on this day it bears date the same is therefore Certified this the 7th day of Sept. 1887 W.G.
