Rushing & Wife to I.C. Riggs Know all men by these presents that we W.H. Rushing & wife N.B. Rushing have this day Bargained and Sold and do hereby transfer and convey unto I.C. Riggs his heirs and assigns forever for the consideration of one hundred Dollars paid a tract or piece of land in Decatur County State of Tennessee as follows in Civil District No 6 Beginning on a poplar the N.W. Corner of C.C. Herndons land runs north 25 poles to dogwood and black oak pointers thence west 89 poles to J.C. Graves South East corner thence north 44 poles to a white oak and hickory and white oak pointers thence South 69 poles to a Stake in C.C. Herndons north boundary line thence west 37 poles to the Beginning Containing forty acres more or less: To have and to hold to the Said I.C. Riggs his heirs and assigns forever and we do Covenant and Agree to and with the Said I.C. Riggs that we are lawfully Seized and possessed of Said land have a good right to convey it and that the Same is unincumbered We do further Covenant and agree and bind our heirs and Representatives to warrant and forever Defend the title to the Said land to the Said I.C. Riggs his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever Witness our hand and Seal this 16th day of January 1878 W.H. x Rushing (Seal) N.B. x Rushing (Seal) State of Tennessee} Decatur County } Personally appeared before me John McMillan Clerk of the County Court of Said County the within named W.H. Rushing the Bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he Executed the foregoing deed for the purposes therein contained and N.B. Rushing wife of the Said W.H. Rushing having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband acknowledged the Execution of the foregoing Deed to have been made by her freely voluntarily and understand- ingly without Compultion or Constraint from her Said husband and for the purposes therein contained on the day it bears date.
