DeKALB COUNTY, TN - MILITAR - Almarinda F. Roberts, Civil War Widow's Pension Application ----¤¤¤---- Widow's Declaration for pension or increase of pension. This must be executed before a court of record of some officer thereof having custody of the seal. State of Tennessee, County of DeKalb, ss. On this 15th day of may A.d. one thousand, eight hundred and eighty three personally appeared before me a clerk of the County court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid Almarinda F. Roberts aged 35 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, make the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by acts of congress granting pension to widows; That she is the widow of M.J. Roberts who was under the name of Sergeant at Hartharge Tenn (spelling?) on the 10 day of August A.D. 1863 in Company K 5 regiment of Tennessee volunteers in the war of 1862 Last rebellion who was ??? with Tetanus and Pneumonia was under the care of Dr. More and at home in Smith , County Tennessee and has been on the decline ever since was discharged at Pubaska Tennessee.. Deceased on the 13th day of March A.D. 1883 who bore at the time of his death the rank of Sergeant in Company K that she was married under the name of Almarinda F. Parker to the Roberts, M.J. on the 12 day of August A.d. 1866 by T.d. Driver J.P. at Liberty Tennessee there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that neither she nor her husband had been previously married - Roberts has his wife died June 27, 1865. That she has to present date remained his widow; that the following are the names and dates of birth of all his legitimate children yet surviving who were under sixteen years of age at the fathers death viz: Elisabeth Roberts b: November 03, 1852 Martha Roberts b: July 08, 1856 Sarah Jane Roberts b: November 28, 1857 Elward H Roberts b: October 21, 1859 Mary A Roberts b: March 25, 1862 Sherman Roberts b: May 20, 1865 John P Roberts b: June 14, 1867 That she has not abandoned the support of any one of her children, but that they are still under her care or maintenance. All have been under my care but 1 until 16 years old and 1 yet under by care. That she has not in any manner engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the united states; that prior application has been filed soldier for bounty, no, and no bounty. That she hereby appoints with full power of substitutions and revocation Soule Company of Washington D.C. her attorney to prosecute the above claim; that her residence is No. Street and her post office address is Liberty in the County of Dekalb, state of Tennessee Witnesses: Francis Hall and E.F. Claiburn residing at Liberty, DeKalb County, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly worn, say that they were present and saw Almarinda f. Roberts, the claimant sign her name (make her mark) the foregoing declaration; that they have very reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Roberts, who was a private in Company K, 5th Regiment of Tenn Cav Vols, reported died March 13, 1883, If the above name is not found on the rolls of said Company will you so state, and report as to enrollment, Jc., in the case of any man bearing a similar name, whom you have good reason for believing to be the soldier inquired for. Please, also, to furnish any evidence on file that may enable this Office to decide whether the soldier's death resulted from injuries received or disease contracted in the service and line of duty. Roberts, a Corpel of Company "k" 5 Regiment tenn Calvary Volunteers, was enrolled on the 2 day of May 1863 at Carthage 3 years and is reported on roll for July & August 1863 (first on file) present. Same report to June 30/64 July & Aug 64 absent, sick since July 31, 1864. Sept & Oct 64 present, same report to Feb 28, 1865. March & April 1865 absent with leave since april 24, 1865. May & June 1864, absent without leave since June 20, 1865. Mustered out with Co. at Pulaski Tenn, Aug 14, 1865 a private with remark. Captured near Granville Tenn. Jan 22, 1864th paroled, Co was in action near Chestnut Mount Tenn, Jan 20 1864. Prisoner of War Records furnish no information. Company morning report show him returned to Company June 6 1865. Nature of sickness July 64, cause ?? of leave April 1865 not stated.
