John Steal Bond Know all men by these presents that we John Steal and Wm. Rany all of the county of Dekalb and state of Tennesse are held and firmly bound unto his ecellancy James C. Jones, Esq Govener [sic] in and for the state of Tennessee or his successors in Office in the sum of twelve hundred and fifity dollars void on condition that there be know [sic] objections why John Steal and Mahala Goodman should not be joined together in the holy estate of Matrimony Then shall the above obligation be null and void, otherwise to reamin in full force & virtue Witnessed our hands and seals this 7" day of October 1844. his John X Steal (seal) mark William Rany (seal) No 364 John Steal & Mahaly Goodman State of Tennessee Dekalb County To any regular Minister of the Gospel having the care of soles [sic] or any Justice of the peace for said County Greeting You or either of you are hereby ortherized [sic] and appointed to solemnized the rites of matrimony between John Steal sr and Mahaley Goodman and join them together as husband and wife in the holy estate of matrimony he having entered into bond and security- according to Law, Given under my hand at office in Smithville this 7th day of November, 1844.
