SCOTT, united Miss Nelle LATTA,second daughter of Mr.& Mrs.John G. LATTA,of this city,and Hampton Oscar MARLEY,of Memphis. Her grandfather, Capt. S.R. LATTA,being one of the pioneers of this part of the State.The groom is also a native Tennessean and occupies a position of responsibility with Galloway Coal Company,Memphis. The audience was entertained with "The Budion Love Song," and "Love Me,' and "The World Is Mine," sung by Mr.Granger LATTA and Miss Louise BRACKIN. Mrs.Robert McKNIGHT played Mendelsshon's wedding march as processional and Lohengrin's as recessional. The bridal party was preceded down the aisles by the little flower girls,Mary Granger GRIGSBY, Mary LATTA, Kate LATTA, and Belle LATTA, all dressed in dainty white dresses. They were followed by the attendants, Miss Floy LATTA, sister of the bride, Miss Kate GORDON,cousin of the bride, Miss Cano FERGUSON, Miss Janie COOVER, Miss Nell THOMAS,of this place and Miss Bertha WOOLLEN,of Memphis, gowned in white mulle over silk,with elaborate lace trimmings.The best man was F.N. MARLEY,of Memphis,brother of the groom, A.H. MURRAY, J.R. MURRAY, A.W. LAMBERT, J.A. WEBER,all of Memphis and H.B. WATKINS, Stoy DAWSON, W.O. GORDON,of Dyersburg,groomsmen. The matron og honor,Mrs.Albert Russell ERSKINE,of Memphis,cousin of the bride,preceded the maid of honor,Miss Leslie LATTA,the bride's sister. The bride entered on the arm of her father, John G. LATTA,who placed her in the keeping of the bridegroom at the Chancel. Her dark beauty was brought out to perfection by a handsome white duchesse satin gown with lace trimmings.The full length veil was caught with a wreath of orange blossoms. Immediately after the ceremony,an elaborate ceremony was tendered about 200 specially invited guests at the home of the bride's father.A perfect wealth of elegant gifts many from a distance,were received,among the handsomest being a chest of silver from S. Granger LATTA, an uncle of the bride. Mr.& Mrs. MARLEY left on the 9 o'clock train for a two weeks trip to Ashville and vicinity. MONEY HOARDED FOR YEARS TURNED LOOSE BY GILES COUNTY MAN.Pulaski,Tenn.--Stricken with the fear that he would be murdered for his money, Willis SMITH,an aged resident of the fourth district,has flooded the county with money which he has been hiding for many years. The money,amounting to fully $30,000,consists of half dollars and qusrters of two generations ago,and does not give any evidence of being handled. SMITH,who is 84 years old,kept his money in fruit jars hidden about his home,on the left prong of Shoal Creek,until someone told him he ran a risk of being murdered for his money.Thus to the local bank. TERSE TELEGRAMS--Either the most atrocious murder,or a most remarkable suicide in police annals was discovered in the furnace room of the Ryan soap factory Friday,when the charred body of a man was dragged from the fire box bt John McDERMOTT,the engineer. A report from Phoenix,Ariz.,announces the conviction of murder in the second degree of Gid ROACH,formerly of Weakley County. Mabel,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Ben HAGUEWOOD,Jr., who has been critically ill the past two weeks,is reported much better. Prof.Guy DEAN,of Newbern,who has been principal of the Scanton,Miss.,schools for two years,was in the city,the guest of Mrs.W.S. COOVER.Prof. DEAN has retired from school work and will practice law. James MEADERS, Ashley WILSON,and Neal HOWELL,have returned from Fitzgerald Training School. Uncle Jerry FOWKLES,colored,for over 40 years an employee of the Stevens Lumber Co., DIED Tuesday. LOHMAN & DANIEL--At the residence of Mr.& Mrs.J.L. DANIEL Tuesday afternoon,their daughter, Annie Jelks DANIEL,was married to Mr. Edward Nicola LOHMAN,of Memphis,the ceremony was said by the Rev.Geo.P.SCOTT. Miss DANIEL has spent most of her life in Dyersburg.Through her mother's family,she is connected with the prominent JELKS family of Arkansas. Mr.LOHMAN belongs to a well known family of Memphis, where he is a valued attache of the U.S.Engineers Office.Mrs.J.L. DANIEL,Jr.,played Mendelssohn's wedding march,with Annie Laura softly played thru the ceremony. Mr.MURLEY lost about 50 barrels of corn.The orgin of the fire is unknown. Misses Mary and Kathleen ROBERTS,of Union City,are visiting their aunt,Mrs.MARTINY. ROBERT LEDSINGER,brother of the late Tom LEDSINGER, Died Monday at his home in Columbus, GA. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about the time of his brother's death,and never fully recovered. MOORE & WARREN--A pretty church wedding at Holly Grove Church last Thursday afternoon,united the lives of Miss Mamie WARREN and Leslie MOORE. Miss Lizzie ROBERTSON sang; Herbert MOUNT played the wedding march.Newton MOORE,brother of the groom was the best man and Miss Bertha HARWELL was maid of honor. The ceremony was said by Rev. T.F. CASON. Mrs. MOORE is the charming daughter of M.M. WARREN,of Wilmer Glenn and her husband is the son of Dr.MOORE, prominent physician of Laneview.Those present from a distance were: Miss Etta COOK, Mrs.Pauline MEADOWS, Dr.HARWOOD and Miss Lena WALKER,from Laneview; Dr.Frank PARKS of Halls; Zella BRUCE of Dyer; Aubrey WARREN,Miss Effie OUCAL and Earl PARKS,of Laneview. BOLD BURGLER--A burglar attempted to enter the residence of Mrs. M.M. MARSHALL last Fridat night about 9 o'clock,but was frightened away. About 30 minutes later,presumably the same party got into B.W. LANIUS' residence. He entered Miss Linnie LANIUS' room,but her screams scared him away. ATTEMPTED ROBBERY--A burglar attempted to enter Hubbard's Store last Thursday morning at 3 a.m.,but was frustrated by R.L. HUBBARD,who occupied a room up stairs over the store.Mr.HUBBARD was awakened by someone breaking the glass out of the back door.No one was caught. MRS.SARAH ELIZABETH DuBOSE--died at the home of her daughter,Mrs.Rosa SWEARENGEN,at the place just at the close of a beautiful Sabbath day,surrounded by her children and grandchildren.The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Monday,conducted by Revs. A.J. MEADERS and R.H. MAHON,when the remains were taken to the city cemetery and laid to rest. She was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and at the time of her death was 72 years old. She had been a resident of Dyersburg for about 16 years.She leaves three sons,and two daughters to mourn her loss; Mrs.Rosa SWEARENGEN,of this city, Mrs,John H. SHERROD,of Memphis, J.H. DIAMOND RING STOLEN--Two diamond rings valued at $88 were stolen from a pillow in a bedroom at the residence of J.L. BURGIE,1980 Madison,between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m.yesterday morning.Detective J.B. TERSE TELEGRAMS--An unknown negro,believed to be wanted in Alanta on a charge of murder,committed suicide at Chattanoogna by cutting his throat from ear to ear in the yard of Mrs.Wm.WILCOX,at the foot of Lookout Mountain. A Confederate Monument will be unvailed at Trenton tomorrow with the address of the day will be made by Hon.E.W. CARMACK. Judge W.C. CALDWELL,of Trenton,is critically ill at Alanta,GA. Ola OVERBY,a prominent citizen of Robertson County,aged 90 years,was KILLED by lightening while lying in his bed. John J. McCANN,County Trustee of Davidson County,is DEAD in Nashville,aged 74 years. UNION CITY OFFICALS SUED--Mrs.Harris PARTIN has entered suit individually against Mayor John T.WALKER,of Union City; Alderman W.H. GARDNER and J.P. ADAMS,Superintendent of the light plant and Engineer Cloud ALLEN for $25,000.Mrs.PARTIN was given judgement in the sum of $5,000 against the city in the last term of court.Her attorneys are MOORE & HUDGINS,of Union City, and RICE & DRAPER of this city. PETE COLE CAPTURED--Pete COLE,who killed Al BRADFORD,another negro,at Tiger Tail May 24th,was captured at Belmont,Mo.,last Thursday.Sheriff DAWSON and Deputy Sheriff John WILLIAMSON traced him to Chicago,thence to Michigan and back to Kentucky,where he crossed the river into Mo.,where he ran into Officers DAWSON & WILLIAMSON,who returned him to Dyer County jail. RICHARD M. ANDERSON--postmaster of Bluff Point,Tennessee,has just resigned at 80 years of age. HOUSTON,TEXAS--Mrs.L.KILLCREASE,of Pine Mills,ten miles from Mineola,Texas,will celebrate her 131st birthday Monday.She was born June 10,1776. She resides with her daughter and grandaughter, both of whom are also very old. LOUISVILLE,KY--Martha JOHNSON,whose weight is 511 pounds,died of heart failure.She was 62 years old and believed to be the largest person in Kentucky.The undertaker,who was called said that fluid sufficient to embalm six ordinary persons was necessary in preparing the woman's body for burial.The casket is six feet long,three feet wide and twenty-one inches deep.Twelve stout negroes have been selected as pall bearers. DR.YOUNG J. ALLEN--one of the oldest missionaries to China,is DEAD at the age of 72 Years.He was sent out by the Methodists in 1860 and has served that field ever since. Dr.J.L. HAPPEL,of Trenton,was elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association in their meeting in Altanic City last week. MRS.ELECTRA G. CARTHERS DEAD--Died at Kennett,Mo.,June 7th,1907,Electra G.,wife of E.P. CARUTHERS,editor of the Dunklin Democrat.As the wife of J. Booker TOWNSEND,the deceased will be best remembered by Dyersburg people,the couple having lived here for several years prior to 1894,when they moved to Kennett.Deceased was born near Covington March 10,1865.Her first husband died in March 1898.She married Mr.CARUTHERS January 1.1901.She left one child,Herbert TOWNSEND,by her first marriage. MRS.NETTIE MURPHEY--of Gadsden,Ala.,a neice of W.O. BRANDON,is in the city,the guest of Mrs.W.H. HUBBARD.Mrs.MURPHEY will be remembered here as Miss Nettie CRAIG. MRS.JOHN SANDLING--formerly of this city,DIED at her home in Union City Sunday. She leaves a husband and two daughters.Mr.SANDLING,while living here,worked for the Stevens Lumber Company. LATTA was thrown from his buggy Tuesday morning in front of R.F.C. MOSS' residence,and while he suffered no serious injury,he was badly shaken up. J.H. JONES and wife of Holly Grove,have returned from Battle Creek,Mich.,and Mrs.JONES' health is much improved. George HOBB returns home today from Knoxville,where he attended school. Tucker HARRELL was badly injured Sunday afternoon by a horse he was riding falling with him and breaking his ankle badly,mashing the limb. Clyde NASH,who has been a surgical student at the hospital in Memphis for the last four years,has graduated and come home at last; glad to have the young "Doc" in our community. James HARWELL,who was raised in this neighborhood,but has been near Mobile,Alabama,teaching school about four years; is back with homefolks. BOGOTA--A two horse harrow ran over Chide SANFORD's foot,inflicting a painful wound. Jim GREGORY DIED Sunday morning.He was a member of the Christian Church and a good friend and neighbor. SAMARIA--Mrs.L.A. WILSON is on the sick list. Mrs. Annie VAIL is on the sick list. Dottie & Mattie CARTER visited their cousin,Miss Montie CARTER at Pafford's Chapel last week. ARMSTRONG,wife & mother,and also his sister,Effie,are visiting the E. EVANS family this week. B. HICKS' little son,Georgie,fell from a wheel Saturday and broke his arm. STOKES--Gaston CANADA & wife of the Holly Grove neighborhood are nursing their firstborn, a fine boy baby,born a few days ago. Two negroes got into a scrape last Sunday week and one of them mauled the other with a stick.He was tried on Wednesday before Esquires BESSENT,PUTMAN,& CHAMBERS, & fined $7.50 and costs. A team of horses belonging to Carrol REED became frightened last Saturday afternoon,and ran away,one of them fell on a piece of iron and was cut so badly that it died in a short time. Jim LOVELACE happened to the misfortune of getting his hand badly mangled last Saturday by the accidental dischjarge of a shotgun,both barrels being fired into his hand. Mrs.W.E. HUMPHREY,son and daughter,of Murray,Ky.,visiting this community,returned home accompanied by Misses Georgie and Effie Lou BAKER. ROBERT W. LEDSINGER--The Columbus,Ga.,Ledger,in chronicling the death of Mr.LEDSINGER says: Robert Wadkins LEDSINGER was born in Dyersburg,Tenn.,in October,1842, and was 64 years old his last birthday.His life up to the civil war was spent at that place,and when the war broke out,his family being intensely southern,he and his brother,Thomas F. LEDSINGER,enlisted in company "K" of the Fourth Tennessee regiment,which was commanded by Colonel,and later General STRAHL,a brave officer who was killed charging the breastworks at Franklin,Tenn.The two brothers served until the close of the war.He was at Columbus when the war ended.Mr.LEDSINGER began his business career here as a cotton buyer and in 1875,he was elected a member of the city council from the Fifth Ward. Mr.LEDSINGER has one sister,Mrs.Zenobia FOWKLES,who resided in Dyersburg,Tenn.,and it was his intention to spend his vacation there this summer.He had notified his brother and Dr.FOWKLES,his old comrade to wait for him and not "shiffle off this mortal coil" before they three could have another reunion,but Dr.FOWKLES died a week before Mr.LEDSINGER was taken ill,and his brother,Tom,died the very morning that he was stricken with the malady that ended his life. W.S. DRAPER--This community was shocked last Thursday morning,when it was reported that W.S. DRAPER was dead. At 9:30 a.m.,he was preparing to case when he complained of dizzyness.His associates at the bar preceiving he was not able attempted to lead him from the courtroom,when they realized the stricken man could not walk.He was carried into the mayor's office on the same floor,physicians called for,but in 25 minutes,he breathed his last. W.S. DRAPER was born in Goodlettsville,Tenn.,November 22,1847,educated in Cumberland University.He located in Newbern in 1867 and associated with Hamilton PARKS in conducting the Union Male & Female Academy. He married Miss Mollie PARKS,and she survives him.He leaves a wife; son,W.S. DRAPER,Jr.;and a daughter,Mrs.J.T. BRATTON,to mourn his loss.Funeral services were conducted by Rev.S.D. LOGAN,his remains laid to rest Friday evening at the City Cemetery. GOLD FOUND NEAR NEWBERN--Hugh GAULDEN plowed up a gold dollar on his father's farm near here last week while plowing cotton.Mr.Dennis GAULDEN lost this gold piece in 1865,42 years ago,with other coins.Mr.GAULDEN had this gold money on his person when engaged in the last battle that Gen.N.B. FORREST ever fought,at Selma,Ala.Messrs.GAULDEN and G.W. GRISHAM were captured in the Selma fight.The gold dollar was issued in 1858 and when shown us by Mr.GAULDEN,was as bright as one just minted.Newbern Tennessean. STORE BURNED--The general store of PEERY, DAUB,& BAKER at Booth's Point was destroyed by fire Wednesday night.Loss $2000,Insurance $1500,with T.L.WELLS.The building was the property of Mrs.Sallie JAMES.The McCLURE blacksmith shop adjoining was also burned. GRIST MILL BURNED--The grist mill of H.A. KLYCE company was destroyed by fire Sunday morning.The fire was discovered by an I.C. switchman at 9:30 and within 30 minutes was a complete ruins.The loss estimated at $10,000,no insurance. MISS JULIA WALKER---has returned from Knoxville,where she graduated from the Satae University. DOLLY DIMPLE PARTY--Mrs.Geo.E. SCOTT entertained Tuesday with a Dolly Dimple party.The guests were given thread,needle and thimble and required to dress a doll in a given time.Ist prise,a gold pin,was won by Miss Mary WALKER; 2nd prize,a dressing sack,by Miss CALDWELL;and 3rd,a handkerchief,by Mrs.WILLIAMSON. Dainty aprons were given as souvenirs.The guests of honor were:Mesdames R.S.BRYAN,WILLIAMSON,W.H. CARROL,Jr.,and Miss CALDWELL,of Memphis. RESIDENCE BURNED--The residence of Dr. J.D. CRAIG was destroyed by fire Sunday morning,1:30 a.m. Dr.CRAIG was the only one home,Mrs.CRAIG having gone to Trimble to visit her parents. A few pieces of funiture and some clothing was saved.The house was insured for $1,500 and the furniture for $1,000,with John G. LATTA. THURSDAY,JUNE 20,1907--Capt.& Mrs.F.H. Mrs. Lawrence PACE,of Dyersburg,was called to her former home in Kentucky by telegram this week,to attend the bedside of her sister,whi is critically ill. Mrs.Mollie EASLEY announces the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter,Sallie Maud,to C.H. MRS.OAKLEY'S MOTHER DEAD--Rev.J.B. OAKLEY received a telegram Sunday afternoon stating that Mrs.Carrie R. CALHOUN,Mrs.OAKLEY's mother,died at Rome,Tenn.,that morning.Mrs.OAKLEY had just been back home a week from a visit to her mother,thinking there was no immediate danger.The funeral took place Monday. W.FRED LONG GETS SCARE--The guests of Hotel Virginia were in a flutter of excitment Monday night.Mr.& Mrs.W. ELECTRICAL STORM--The electrical storm here Thursday evening did much damage.Rev.Ira HICKS,of St.Louis,had predicted the storms for this sections.A bolt of lightening killed Green KITTRELL,colored,living near the fairgrounds.The dead man was 35 years old and an industrious negro, employed on Clyde PURSLEY's place.Another bolt of lightening struck the redisence of Mrs.Fannie STEVENS,but doing no damage other than knocking off some plastering.
