ACCIDENT--On last Tuesday as Mr.John TYLER,a gentleman who first emigrated from North Carolina (torn) growing and prosperous county (torn edge),moving his family to his new home (torn edge) son met with an accident that nigh resulting in his death.(torn edge) that he was attempting to get (torn edge) wagon when one of the oxen kicked him so severely that he fell to the ground and the wagon passed over both (torn edge) his arms and a portion of his skull.(torn) he was seriously hurt,we are (torn) to know he is out of danger. The late fire at Brownsville,Tennessee,destroyed twelve large buildings,the loss estimated at $30,000,on which there was but a small insurance.The Home Journal was destroyed,and Brownsville is now without a newspaper. A RARE CHANCE--By referring to our advertizing columns,it will be seen that Mrs.Nancy P.HALE offers her town property for sale.Her property is one of the most desirable residences in our town,and a rare chance for a speculation is offered. RICE WIDOWS--The New Orleans Delta mentions,under the head of 'Rich Freight',the arrival of a steamboat from Red River,with several passengers,among them eight widows,whose aggregate wealth amounted to $5,000,000.One of the ladies is the owner of 600 slaves and the others make(torn edge)0,000 bales of cotton. Read the advertisement of Mr.G.D.McALISTER.The copartnership of CLARK & McALISTER has been dissolved,and our friend Mc.,who is a clever and accommodating fellow and superior workman,will carry on the tin and stove business,"solitary & alone." But his customers will not suffer any from that. COURT HOUSE BURNED--The beautiful Court house recently erected at Madison,Ind.,was destroyed by fire Sunday night,a week ago.It cost forty thousand dollars, The beautiful little steamer,Emmabett,is now at our landing,and will leave for Memphis to-day.Captain J.J. ROBINSON in command. End of locals. DEATH OF A NOBLE CHIEF---An Indian Chief,called Okemos,died lately near Lansing Mich.He was supposed to be over one hundred years old.He was in the wars of 1702,both for and against Wayne and St.Clair,at different times.He had a sabre cut clear across his back,made by one of Mad Anthony WAYNE's troopers.At Fort Meigs,he received wounds which left holes in his skull into which three fingers could be laid.The Lansing Republican,in speaking of his death,says;"A few months since we travelled with the old Chief from Holley Station to St.John's,and when asked for his ticket,Okemus stuck a "pass" at the conductor,who asked him if he was an editor. 'No,' said Okemos,with great dignity,drawing his blanket slowly about him,and straightening himself with a look of disgust,'Me big Chief--plenty fight once!' and so,upon the strength of having made a great fight on both sides,Okemos rode on an American railroad owned by John BULL--free!! THE JACKSON BANK ROBBERY AND MURDER--A gentleman,a resident of Gibson County,and a man every way reliable passed through this city yesterday en route to North Carolina,and gave Col.RHEA,Secretary of State,with whom he had some business,the following statement which he had learned on his way to this city. A strange horse had been left at the Livery Stable in Jackson,immediately previous the robbery and murder,and the opwner not calling for him for several days.This story rambles on & on),the horse was paraded around the county in an attempt to identifing the owner.Nothing was learned until they neared the Hardeman County line were some asserted they had seen a young man named IRVIN ride that horse.His father lived in Jackson.The arrest was postponed till morning,when it was found IRVIN had left on the morning train.He was arrested in Bolivar,denying his name,but having gold and bank notes on him. Nashville Banner. NEW ORLEANS,February 28---The steamer,Princess,one of the finest boats on the river,running from Vicksburg to New Orleans,exploded and burned Sunday morning at Conrad's Point,near Baton Rogue.She had four hundred passengers on board,about two hundred of whom are either lost or missing,being mostly residents of Louisiana or Missiossippi.Killed named were ; J.W.SEYMOUR,of Baton Rogue Mr.CALHOUN,of Maysvilio,KY,the pilot and assistant engineer, A.B.MURPHY,of St.Louis, J.J. HODGES,of Mississippi.Missing (known) are Charles BANNISTER and L. HOARD,Representitives from New Orleans, Joseph CLARK,second clerk,and Samuel WAITH,of Virginia. UNITED STATES ATTORNEY,KEY KILLED---Washington,February 28---On Sunday at 2 p.m. Daniel E. SICKLES,member of Congress,shot and killed Phillip Barton KEY,the United States District Attorney of Columbia. SICKLES charged KEY with dishonoring him and destroying his domestic peace.SICKLES surrendered himself and was committed to jail. It appears that Mrs.SICKLES had been confronted by her husband and had made confessions in presence of witnesses of an improper intimancy with KEY since April last,SICKLES ask her to return their wedding ring and to write to her mother to come and take her home.SICKLES has retained the Hon.Robt.J.WALKER & Messers CARLISLE & RADCLIFF as council. NOTICE---All persons are notified not to take in or make any contract with my wife,Mary Ann BUTTS,with the expectation of holding me responsible as she has forsaken my bed and board and I am dteremined to be responsible for her,in no case whatever.
