From the minutes of the September 1840 session of the Circuit Court of 
Fayette County,  TN (p.62)  "Letter from James DOUGLASS to court requesting 
freedom of Phlegm and Eda,  his wife,  who are honest,  industrious and will 
remove themselves from this state.  Neighbors and acquaintances of James 
DOUGLASS of Fayette County,  Tennessee,   testify to the character of Phlegm 
DOUGLASS,  a colored person formerly the property of James DOUGLASS...."
