Allen 8095@aol.com ==================================================================== OBITUARY OF Mary Virginia DOWDY (Mrs Jennie Allen) Contributor's Note: Mary Virginia DOWDY was born April 19, 1850 in Moscow, Fayette County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of William Preston DOWDY and Lucy E. MAY. She married Gustavus Watts ALLEN, who was a corporal in the 13th TN Infantry, Company D. Migrated to Texas in early 1880's. She died June 22, 1921. I have been seeking more information on the parents and siblings of William Preston DOWDY, as well as his other children. I would welcome any information from other DOWDY researchers. I also have more information about Mary Virginia DOWDY's descendants for interested researchers.**** This obituary appeared in the McKinney Daily Courier Gazette on July 25, 1921, page 1; McKinney, Collin County, Texas. ******************************************************* "Mrs. Jennie Allen, aged 71 years, died at Terrell, Texas Friday morning at 5 o'clock. The remains were shipped to McKinney Saturday over the Houston & Texas Central train. The body was received by J. P. Crouch & Co., and conveyed to Pecan Grove Cemetery where interment was made. Funeral services were held at the graveside, conducted by Dr. E. B. Fincher. Mrs. Allen was the widow of Gus Allen, who died in this county twenty years ago. She was a native of Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved to Collin County from Tennessee about 38 years ago. They resided for several years on a farm southwest of McKinney. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by the following children: Gus Allen of Emory, Texas, Preston Allen of Corsicana, Walter Allen and Shackleford Allen of the state of Washington, Ernest Allen of Kansas, Miss Mary Allen of Emory, and Miss Grace Allen of McKinney. She is survived by one sister, who lives in Arkansas. To all you whom bereavement is fallen these editors extend profound sympathy."
