Deed of Trust

(?) of Henry Hill for personal property, as named within-


I have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to
Lumsford L. Matthews for one dollar to me paid and for the other
considerations hereinafter mentioned, a roan mare one feather bed bedstead and
furniture, one red cow with white about her face, one folding table, of
cherry woods, one saddle, bridle and blanket, six split (?) bottomed
chairs, This 4th of January, 1840.
     This deed of trust is made for the following purpose and none other.
On the 3rd of January 1840. I executed my note to Henry Hill for one
hundred and twenty three dollars payable on or before the 25th of
December 1840. Said Hill assigns said note to John Frame, for my
accommodation January 4th 1840 - and Frame advanced me one hundred and
twenty three dollars the amount called for by said note.  Now if I pay said
note by said 25th of December 1840, then the above conveyance to be void.
If not said Matthews as trustee is authorized to sell said property,
at Public Sale, to the highest bidder for cash by giving five days
notice in writing of the time and place of sale, and with the proceeds
thereof if sufficient pay said note principal and interest, and the
charges of this deed, and give the balance to me if there be any. This
deed is made to save (?) said Hill harmless and for his benefit.

State of Tennessee}   Personally appeared before me, William W. Brazelton
Franklin County}      clerk of the county Court of said County, Burwell
Campbell and Lumsford L. Matthews, the bargainor and Trustee, named in
the within deed of Trust, with whom I am personally acquainted, and who
acknowledged that they executed the said within Deed of Trust for the
purposes therein contained,- Witness my hand at office, this 6th day
of January A.D. 1840                    William W. Brazelton, Clk.
Registerd in my office this 8th day of January A.D. 1840-
