Bottoms & wife Adeline, hereby nominate & appoint J.R. Carroll as true and lawful attorney for us to demand and receive from E.W. Raines, Clerk of Gibson County Court, our distributed shares of the proceeds of sale of negroes belonging to the heirs of Jno. O’Daniel, dec’d, sold by decree of the County Court for division & forgive all necessary receipts, bonds, etc for us & in our names as fully as if we were present & doing the same ourselves, we hereby confirm all his acts & doings. Sloan Rachel Sloan Esther Bottoms I recieved a photo-copy of the above Power of Attorney, dated May 1862 and registered June 18, 1862 in the Gibson County Court, from Rodger Carroll, 335 Idylwood Dr., Athens, GA 30605 on March 5, 1997. NOTE: The O’Daniel daughters, Esther and Adline, married brothers, Granville M. Bottoms and Sterling S. Bottoms. Granville and Esther moved to Boulder, CO around 1872 and then Sterling and Adeline joined them about 1874. But the sisters had health problems connected with menopause and moved back to the St. Louis area.
