A. P. Grigsby and Thos. Fite all of Gibson County State of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto Henry D. Harper of the county and state aforesaid in the penal sum of Three thousand seven hundred dollars for which sum well and truly to be paid we bind ourselves our heirs and assigns &C jointly and severally sealed with our seals and dated this 23 day of September A. D. 1837. The conditions of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Benjamin Beckham hath this day sold unto the said Henry D. Harper the following tracts of land (to wit) Two tracts on which the said Beckham now lives containing two hundred and seventy acres be the same more or less, originally entered in the name of Thomas Hopkins in the 13th surveyors District Range 3 Section 2 also one other tract of Two hundred acres being part of an entry in the name of the Cumberland College for six hundred & forty acres in the 13th District Range 3 Section 2 beginning at the North East corner of said 640 acre tract in the name of the Cumberland College runs West to James Turners line; thence South to Vadens line; thence East to the East boundary of said six hundred and forty acre tract; thence North to the beginning. Now if the said Beckham shall make or cause to be made to the said Henry D. Harper or his heirs or assigns a General Warrantee Deed to the above described tract tracts of land on or before the 25th day of December 1839 or so soon as the said Harper shall have paid and discharged the following promissory notes this day given by the said Harper to the said Beckham (to wit) due as follows, one note for the sum of Eight hundred dollars due on the 25th December: next one other note for the sum of five hundred and twenty five dollars due on the 25th day of December 1838 & one other note for the sum of five hundred and twenty five dollars due on the 25th December 1839, Then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue the date above written.
