Witherspoon Registered December the 1st 1879 For and in consideration of the Sum of Five hundred dollars to me paid as follows to wit $66.66 2/3 cents cash in hand which is hereby recd $100.00 on the 25th day of December 1878. $166.66 2/3 on the 25th day of December 1879, and 166.66 2/3 on the 25th day of Dec. 1880, have this day bargained and sold and hereby transfer and convey unto James Monroe Witherspoon the following described tract of land, situated in 13th Civil District Gibson Co. Tennessee bounded as follows to wit beginning at the S.E. corner joining A. Karnes tract thence North 128 poles to stake thence West 74 poles to stake thence South 128 poles thence East 74 poles to begining containing by Estimation fifty three Acres more or less, To have and to hold the same unto the said J. M. Witherspoon his heirs and assigns forever and I cov enat with said Witherspoon that I am lawfully seized and possessed of said land that I have a perfect right to convey the same and that it is unencumbered and further payment of the aforesaid defined payments said Witherspoon has executed and delivered to me his three promisary notes bearing date of this conveyance and due respectively as above stated and a lien on said tract herein conveyed is hereby securely returned to secure the payment of such purchase money notes. I further covinant to forever warrant and defend the title to said land to said J.M. Witherspoon his heirs and representatives Witness my signature this 21st Sept. 1878. attest C.L. Butler E. F.
