All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Dixie McMillen ******************************************************************************** as transcribed from microfilm: Tuesday January Term 1824 This day personally appeared in open court Alexander G HAMILTON, James B BLAKEMORE, Coleby DOWELL and Ansalum RUSSELL was appointed on yesterday constable for this county and took the necessary oaths prescribed by constables by the constitution and law of the state and severally entered into hand with approved security for the faithful discharge of the duties of their office in the sum of one thousand dollars each. Page 4 The court then proceeded to ballot for a clerk of this court, whereupon counting the vote Thomas FITE was declared duly and constitutionally elected to the said office who took the necessary oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this state and entered into an acknowledged bond in the sum of ten thousand dollars with Robert READ, William B C KILLINGSWORTH and William W GRAIG his security for the safe keeping of the records and faithfully discharge of his duties. The court then proceeded to the election of Sheriff of said county pf Gibson for the two ensuing years and after counting the votes of John W NEEDHAM was proclaimed duly and constitutionally elected to the said office who took the necessary oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this state and entered into an acknowledged bond in the sum of five thousand pounds with John D LOVE and Benjamin WHITE his securities conditioned as law directs. The court then proceeded to the election of Registar of Gibson County and on counting the votes Wm W CRAIG was declared duly and constitutionally elected to the said office who took the necessary oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this state and entered into an acknowledged bond in the sum of five thousand pounds together with John D LOVE and Thomas FITE his securities conditioned as the law directs. Page 5 The court then proceeded to the election of County Trustee and on counting the votes Robert REED was declared duly and constitutionally elected Trustee of Gibson County for the two succeeding years who took the necessary oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this state and entered into bond with William HOLMES and William W CRAIG his securities conditioned as the law directs. The court then proceeded to appoint a Ranger for Gibson County and after collecting and counting the votes William D BLAKEMORE was declared duly and constitutionally elected to the said office who took the necessary oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this state and entered into and acknowledged bond with Olley BLAKEMORE and John EVANS his securities conditioned as the law directs. The following named persons was appointed of the Vinere facias to serve as jurors at the next term of this court, to wit, Green B CHAMBERS, Hiram COLE, George HAMILTON, John p THOMAS, Wm C LOVE, John SPENCER, John PARKER, James B LOVE, Reuben REED, Page 6 John W BUCKNER, John M EVANS, Luke BIGGS, William FURGUSON, John PAGE, William CARMACK, William HOLMES, John EDMUNSON, George TINKLE, William REED, Edward ALLEN, David DIXEN, Samuel WILES, Daniel MARTIN, Josiah ALEXANDER and William CONNER ordered that a list be delivered to the sheriff and that he summon the same. A deed of bargain and sale was this day produced in open court from Willis JOHNSON by his attorney in fact William C L LOVE to Enoch DEUTHET for one hundred and eighty two acres of land lying in the County of Gibson and duly proven by the oaths of Austin a KING and Andrew HAYS the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be certified for Registration. On motion Fanny BLAKEMORE was appointed administratrix of all and singular the foods and chattels rights and credits of William BLAKEMORE deceased who took the necessary oaths prescribed and entered into an acknowledged bond in the sum of five thousand dollars with Olley BLAKEMORE and Abram McLEMORE conditioned as the law directs whereupon Isham F DAVIS, Abram McLEMORE and John EVANS Page 7 Was appointed by the court commissioners to lay off for the said Fanny a necessary support for one year as the law directs. On motion it is ordered by the court that this court adjourn from this place to meet at the house of William C LOVE in said county at next court in course. Court then adjourned until next court in course
