Who were wed 27th Aug. 1884 in Medina, Tenn. They moved to Alvaton, Ky. Maggie, her mother Nannie Poe, sister Addie, and brother Amos had lived many years with her sister Mary"Mollie"R. Lyon and Mary's husband James H.A. Lyon on the farm southeast of Medina. (I have tried to idendify all the names in this letter with only partial luck. They seem to be neighbors of the area southeast of Medina.) Sept. 4th 1884 Medina, Tenn. Dear Children, I will write a letter in answer to your kind letter we was so glad to get. Maggie I am so glad you are both so well satisfied. I hope you will both always live happy. It is great comfort to me to know you are so well satisfied. We are not very well today. I am not hardly well enough to sit up you know how I am. ADDIE and myself went to church yesterday. Went home with Alice Romlet back to church last night heard some splendid preaching delivered by Brother Milbern a Baptist preacher. Mr and Mrs (illegible) joined the church yesterday. Brother Lewis comenses his meeting next Sunday night. George (Scott) everybody complyments you very highly, but Mr Williams and I guess he is ashamed of himself. Sam Watt (age 27 son of James and Paralee) gave him a good lecture about the way he treated you. I think you will have to come back. I hardly got to peep at you or speak to you. I thought I would get to hear a heap from Me Dear Old Home and home folks but you would not stay long enough to tell anything. Maggie everybody is grieving about you leaving. Mrs Rowlet sends her best respects to you.Miss Fannie & Lizzie & Mollie Watt is expecting a letter soon. When you write to me you must say something to Mrs Barnett & Sallie. McBud Rowlett started to middle Tenn Saturday to his wife. Maggie we are so lonesome here without you it looks like. katy and Tipsy wants to see you too.I asked Willie(Lyon 1st child of James and Mollie)what he would do if he saw Att ( Addie Poe)coming. He said he would run and meet her and eat her up. he says he is going to tucky to see Att. I told him Att wanted to know what her Pet was doing. he said "dis foolin round." he said tell Att he was a good boy. Saturday morning -- We are as well as common. Amos (Poe) is not right well but he is halling stove wood. Addie is ironing. We will finish Mr McAsling (McCaslin)shirts today. Well Maggie I reckon you want to know what we all done after you left. Mollie Watt & Mrs Price staid all day with us. Mary, Will, Addie, Amos and I went to Mrs Barnetts & staid all night. We made some preserves the next day. When night came you know Addie always fixes the beds. She fell on the bed crying and says O Ma. I never can stay here without Maggie. I was so sorry for her & Amos as well as myself. Mr Lyon and Mary has got the Ky fever. They both think they would have better health if they was there & I believe they would. Addie wants to write more. I will close by saying give my kindest respects to Mr & Mrs Scott and all the family. Miss Martha and Mrs Gardners family and every body else who think enough of us to inquire after us. I thought that Mary was going to write on this side, but she did not so I will say some more. I did not say half enough. I wish I could see you both this evening. It has been raining. Mrs McCaslin and Dachor both had a chill today. Ma and myself spent the day at Sam (illegible) Monday. Bertha and Vernon is as well as ever. They are well as common. The Presbyterian meeting commenses tomorrow night. Come and lets go ha ha and you can't guess who my new sweetheart is.No you can't. ha ha ha he is 18 and me 14 ha ha ha he. Mag, Sam Barnett said he was going to go to Ky too. he said you ought to have told him you was going to marry and he would have told you something you did not know. We got a letter from Fred Poe after you left for you. he did not believe you. He made fun of you. Lordy Mercy Mag I got a compliment from D. S. B. that night we went there ain't that ___. Mag, I hope you and Brother George will love on just as hard as you do now and live happy don't you. Well I guess you want me to quit. Say yes and don't write so much foolishness next time. I won't put nothing in to make you cry. Well Brother George I wish I could see you but not half as bad as the one that will be your brother some time.
