Lyon and his wife Mary "Mollie" Poe Lyon lived just south of Medina into Madison Co. Tenn. Mollie's mother Nancy, sister Maggie,sister Addie and brother Amos had moved from Kentucky and lived with them for awhile. This letter written by Addie Poe age 14 to her sister Maggie Poe Scott who had married George Scott and moved back to the old homeland of the Poes in Alvaton, Ky. Sept 4th 1884 Medina,Tenn. Dear Brother and Sister. We received your kind and welcome letter. Was glad to here from you all.We received it last night at church. Miss Fannie ( Fly age 14 next door to Lyons) and Lizzie was there and read it. You all ought to have stade until after the protracted meeting. We had such a good meeting. It broke last night. We all got happy and had a big time. Mrs Cole is worse. She told me to tell you that she told you that last time you was there that you was going to run off but you was too smart for her. she didn't . . . you. Well Sis and Bud I wish I could stop in and ketch you all kissing I would slip a board in between your lips and make you kiss the board. Mag, Mrs Haliman's baby is dead was buried this morning at 9 o'clock. Mag tell Delia and Jack and Amos to answer my letter. Tell all of my kinfolks I would like to see them. Tell Jett to be sure and send me Clides picture. I want it so bad. Tell Uncle Fed (Poe)to be right good and sweet and come to see us. Mag if you knew what Willie (Lyon)said about you you would laugh.
