INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON--Wesley P.BPLERJACK and Miss Wilmer PITTS,of the 12th District,drove to Gibson last Saturday afternoon,accompanied by some young friends and were happily married.Esq.R.D.ESTES saying the ceremony. -- The remains of Sam GOODWIN,who died in France in Oct.,1918,arrived here and were buried in Gibson Cemetery last Saturday.The funeral service was conducted by Rev.ADAMS,of near Milan.He leaves his parents,Mr.& Mrs.P.J.GOODWIN; two siaters,Mrs.E.RAINEY,of Gibson and Mrs.I.W.JACKSON,of Memphis; three brothers,Andrew GOODWIN,Matt GOODWIN,and Elbert GOODWIN. --Mr.Anderson GARDNER is here visiting his sister,Mrs.W.Z.OLIVER.He enlisted with the U.S. seven years ago,and was sent to the Hawaiian Islands,where he served four years.he then was brought to this country,where he served until his recent release. -- Born to Mr.& Mrs.Roy PALMER on last Saturday,a fine girl. --Miss Bessie WALKER and Miss Dick PACE,of Mexico,visited her sister,Mrs.C.C.LANKFORD last week. -- Mrs.Guest and children,of Haskel,Texas,visited her uncle,W.W.CHUNN and wife this week. --W.A.LOVE and wife,of Sarah,Miss.,visited his sister,Mrs.R.D.ESTES,this week. --Mrs.W.G.DAVIS and daughter,Lizzie,were called to Brinkley,Ark.,to the bedside of Rev.Ross DAVIS,who is quite sick. -- A.C.LANKFORD and family,of Jackson,visited his brother,J.W.LANKFORD,here this week. --The third trial of F.C.FLY and R.L.DAWSON,accused of shooting a negro,Jno ATCHISON,two years ago,was held in Trenton this week,and a verdict of not guilty rendered.There was a hung jury in the first two trials. LIVE NEWS NOTES FROM FRUITVALE--John B.WARREN,of Cairo,Ill.,spent Tuesday and Wednesday with his parents,Mr.& Mrs.Joe WARREN. --Mrs.Viola RUST & children,spent the weekend with her brother,W.A.WOODARD and family. DEATH--Mrs.Mattie WILLIAMS,widow of the late Zach WILLIAMS,and the mother of Messers.C.M.COULTER and John WILLIAMS,died at her home on Burrow Street Thursday at 5 a.m.,after being in a low state of health many months.She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a devout Christian,a devited mother and a kind and thoughtful neighbor.She was in her 77th year,and is also survived by three daughters,Mrs.Minnie FONVILLE,Miss Ina WILLIAMS and Mrs.Jesse BARNETT.She is also survived by one sister,Mrs.Johnse WILLIAMS,of Dyer.Funeral services were held at the family residence,the remains were buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. DEATH--Mrs.Elizabeth Jane HAMILTON,mother of Messers W.R.& Dave HAMILTON and Mesdames C.M.WILLIAMS & Luther MATHIAS,died at the home of the elder son,W.R.,at an early hour Sunday morning,August 15th,of pneumonia.She was 77 years of age,burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. DEATH--Last Saturday morning,Mrs.Mary Jane SALISBURY,known to her friends as “Sunshine”,laid down her burdens and fell into that deamless sleep that comes before the joys of eternity.Realizing for several years past that she was in the twilight of her earthly existence,Mrs.SALISBURY had pleasantly whiled away many otherwise tedious hours,fashioning her burial clothes and burial outfit,and after the great summons had come and the tired worn body was stilled,ministering friends found every little single item ready at hand for the last sad offices of love.She was born at High Hill,MO.,in 1840,and at the age of 16,was married at Danville,Mo.,to Hon.Lord William SALISBURY,an English lawyer,and nephew and namesake of Lord SALISBURY of London.At the age of twenty,she was left a widow with two little daughters.Two years after the death of the father,these little girls died about the same time and both were buried in the same caskett.One by one,her other loved ones were called away,until her death,only four nephews and four neices survive her.Two of these nephews,Messrs.Chas.J.CUSTER,of this city,and W.V.CUSTER,of Bainbridge,GA,were the mainstays and support of Mrs.SALISBURY.Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
