He was then seventy-five years of age and therefore born in 1764. He enlisted at Orange County Court House, North Carolina. He served in the First Regiment North Carolina State Line, under Colonel Henry Dickson. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He was discharged in May, 1782, and immediately re-enlisted. Later he returned to his home which was about fifteen miles from Orange County Court House. After five years he moved to Greene County, Tennessee, near Babe's Mill. In 1793 he joined a company which served under Captain John Casey and Colonel John Sevier, against the Cherokees. His whole service included 32 months and 7 days.
